Escándalo Wines

What we do.

We make wines from different Chilean valleys, with immense respect for the grape, using low-intervention winemaking and a touch of creativity.

Our ultimate goal is for the wine to speak for itself, and to bring joy and emotion to any table in the world.

Who we are

Mauricio Veloso

Mauricio Veloso, a Chilean agronomist from the Universidad Austral de Chile, has harvested in California, Chile, and New Zealand.

While tasting wines in California, he fell in love with a couple of Spanish appellations. In 2006 he traveled to study winemaking at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain.

After working in appellations such as El Bierzo, Ribera del Duero, and La Mancha, he returned to Chile in 2011. He bottled the first Escándalo in Chile in 2015.

What we believe.

We are eager to make exciting wines and represent the territories we continue to discover.

We find inspiration every day, in a wine we drink, in a new region we explore, its people and their stories.

We are certain that grapes and wine take on a life of their own. We simply try to guide them on the right path to the bottle.

We do not have the final word, we have no certainties, nor do we defend ideologies. For us, there is enough magic and nobility in the transformation of grape into wine.

Our practices

We do not use enzymes or commercial yeasts, or any element foreign to the grape.

We sometimes use used barrels in a small percentage of the blend. We age our wines in steel and concrete. We always bottle unfiltered, after gravity settling.

Our wines contain a low level of sulfites, appropriate for proper evolution in the bottle.

We drink and taste our wines every day, and we love them. We hope you do too.
